Historic Aircraft Display Day is a great opportunity to introduce the public to aviation while benefitting owners of private aircraft.
General aviation airports all over have been quietly hosting Display Days for many years. Not a lot of people know that on the the third saturday of every month Van Nuys Airport holds display day at the new Prop Park. Usually there are from 3 to a dozen interesting historic aircraft on display with owner/pilots waiting to talk about their planes and tell engaging stories of the adventures they have had in aviation. these are the kind of stories that may start a young would-be pilot on the journey into flying.
Here at Van Nuys airport we are interested in up-ing the game. The February Display Day falls on the 21st this month and we have just confirmed that the Los Angeles Fire Department, Air Operations will provide one of their monster rescue helicopters for display at the event!
As the manager of display day activities I am looking to add to the value and excitement to these events and this helicopter display is something you don’t want to miss!
So save the date and pay us a visit. There’s nothing that paints a smile on a child’s face (with the possible exception of an ice cream sundae) quite like sitting in the cockpit of a real airplane and talking about flying with an enthusiastic pilot!
Saturday February 21st from 10AM until 2PM. Turn East on Stagg Street from Balboa and follow the signs…..
By the way, I’ll be covering the event as moderator of Aviation Audio Video on the Road and hopefully give you even more perspective on what Display Day is like. But come and Join us this month if you can.

Hope to see you there!
I just finished producing the coverage of the Wings of Rescue fall holiday airlift. At this event about 600 dogs were transported from the new Prop Park at Van Nuys to shelters across the northwest and as far as New York City where loving homes await them.
I was inspired to cover this event after meeting up with Yehuda Netanel at the Flying Aviation Expo.
The show is 10 minutes in duration. check it out!
Let me know what you think!
Special thanks go out to Stephen Pope, Senior Editor of Flying, for posting my Aviation Expo video to their Facebook Page. So give it a look and like:
I’m also working on a new show as a follow up on the Wings of Rescue segment I did at the show. Their next animal rescue event is at at Van Nuys Airport this Friday. I’ll be there to cover it…
I am pleased to announce that the video of the Flying Aviation Expo is now finished. I know that it’s hard to get 4 days of events, seminars, exhibitors and planes parked outside into a single video piece, but I tried to get a comprehensive look at the the expo as a whole. I shot a ton of footage and talked with some of the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the industry. More content will be available soon. Let me know if there are things you are particularly interested in seeing and learning about.
So have a look and let me know what you think!
Below is the shorter 11 minute version. If you want more detailed info click on the complete version for the whole story!

“You are a real pro. Your video work from the Expo is really interesting. It reminded me of Phil Boyer’s work from ABC’s Wide World of Flying. It is especially great to see your fine work from Palm Springs.”
King Flight Schools
I have returned from the Flying magazine’s First annual Aviation Expo for 2014 and it was great! I have been involved in a lot of trade shows and this one was extremely well planned and prepared for. After the AOPA decided to downsize their events after 2013, Flying Magazine decided to take the reins. And they really did it big. The Parade of Planes proceeded, as in previous years, with several dozen aircraft roaring down the streets from Palm Springs Airport to the Convention Center where they were parked for the duration of the show.
Inside, there were a wealth of exhibitors, Keynote presentations and intelligent seminars on relevant topics, including several areas of flight safety, the debate about the FAA and their position on UAV’s in commercial airspace, and disruptive technologies. It’s not what you think…disruptive in the sense that it forever changes the way pilots and aviation proceeds in the future, very cool concepts.
flight simulation was well presented with the highlight event being the IMC Club’s Instrument proficiency area where pilots took to a flock of Redbird Simulators for 3 levels of instrument landings. ATC was provided by Pilot Edge which made for an extremely realistic experience. You could actually get signed off by participating.
Below is the first half of produced video of the show. I’ll be posting more as I finish, so stay tuned!
Aviation Audio Video is pleased to have begun recently as a business created by me, Thomas Rincker of Applications Recording, Inc.
Since 1988 Applications Recording has been producing a wide range of projects from corporate to commercials, to documentaries. Now this new “wing” of the company is out to specialize in aviation related projects.
I am presently a student pilot out of Van Nuys Airport in Southern California, learning in my own piper Cherokee 140/160.
I am also presently on the board of directors of the Van Nuys Prop Pilot’s Association where I’m in charge of membership, managing their website and producing media on their behalf.
As a producer editor and videographer, I hope to add value to the association, the Van Nuys Airport and all related aviation based businesses who would benefit from having their stories told with creativity through the use of modern production tools and techniques.
